Quan zhou was originally a maritime port during the silk road days. Now it is a relatively large city on the coast close to beaches.
It only takes an hour and a half to get to Xiamen but there is not a lot of reasons to do so. Quanzhou has everything you need, plenty of restaurants such Brazilian eat all you can, steak houses and much more.
To get all of your western needs such as deodorant there is a Wal-Mart and a Metro store.
