This is a general requirement for teaching in China and it will vary from different universities.
Qualifications for teaching in China: Bachelor Degree in any major.
Language skills: Native speaker from English speaking countries, many schools hire non-native speakers depending on English level.
Age: 21 to 60
A copy of your: passport, university degree, resume and some reference from previous employers (may not be necessary)
Visa: the university you will work for will send you a letter of invitation to give to the Chinese embassy to apply for a working visa.
For entering China to teach you must attain a "Z" visa this is a legal requirement to teach or to work. "F" visa is for business which means you are here for a meeting but can't say "oh, I am a visiting lecture giving demonstrations." You could be fined and any school allowing you to teach means that they are not licensed and you're not protected. "L" visa means tourist and is usually issued for a month don't even attempt to work on this visa.
If planning to teach in China find the school before you arrive have everything organised and the school will send you all of the documents to give to the embassy. This is a clear indication that this school is licensed and is legally allowed to hire foreign teachers. Never come to China first to look for a school you will have nothing but problems.

This section is to prepare you for what to expect of life in China.
Discrimination is a problem in China due to many factors. Many rich Chinese parents are very ignorant and if they send their child to an English training centre they would like to see white faces. One centre who didn't like this type of discrimination hired an Australian born Chinese girl. She was technically a native speaker as she spoke fluent English with an Australian accent. She came to learn about her heritage to see where her grandparents once lived. The parents were furious and threatened to pull their children out of the school if she continued to teach. The owner said she was a good teacher, the students loved her and spoke clearly. The parents paid to see a white face not a Chinese face.
Students don't care what you like but parents are a problem because of their lack of education. If parents had their way they would place so much pressure on their children and cause them to commit suicide. So when they pay so much money on education they demand white faces whether they're a reliable teacher.
Another problem in Chinese education is the examination methods. Why do they want foreign teachers? To teach them about English from those who use it as a first language. However they want them to teach how to passed the exams created by the Chinese. This makes it difficult to work because teaching students to pass an exam that has nothing to do with surviving in an English speaking country.
Do you speak American or British English? Chinese are very anal when it comes to accents, some british speakers have been ask if they could speak American English. Many Chinese have caught on to the fact that potato can be pronounced in two different ways. My classmate back in Australia had a part time job in a Shanghai primary school. The Chinese teacher would run in and tell him off in front of the class "that's not the correct pronunciation!" Some schools prefer British English because English people are gentlemen.
