Scenario |
People
are judged by the type of job they have. Aperson's identity in society
is mainly by their job. So when a person whose job requires not
a lot of qualifications, people tend to treat them as if he/she
is stupid. |
Student
1 |
You
work in an office building and you are unhappy about the quality
of cleanliness in your office. the windows are not perfectly spotless
to the way you want it. You tell the cleaner to come to your office
to discuss this and you treat him/her as if he/she is stupid. |
Student
2 |
You
join in the discussion and you say to the cleaner that his/her job
isn't that difficult because any stupid person can do it. So cleaning
the windows to be spotless isn't hard and he/she is just lazy. |
| Student
3 |
You
are another office worker but you don't like how the others are
talking down to the cleaner. You believe that cleaning is hard work
and they should not expect so much from the cleaner. |
Teacher |
You
are the cleaner and you are vacuuming the carpet until the boss
tells you to come into his/her office. This person is not your employer
as your boss is the owner of the entire building so this person
can't fire you. Though if he/she complains about you to your actual
boss, it could lead to getting you fired. So you have to say that
you are not expected to be absolutely perfect but try to deal with
it in a polite manner. |

Scenario |
Fashion
sometimes gives people identity especially of wealth; there are
people who look down at others by the type of clothes they wear
and most of all the brand name. |
Student
1 |
You
and student 2 always keep up with the current fashion and constantly
showing off new clothes. Student 3 and the teacher don't care about
fashion and seldom buy new clothes. |
Student
2 |
You
and student 1start making fun at student 3 and the teacher for wearing
last year's fashion. You both discuss how cheap their clothes are
and that they have no dress sense. |
Student
3 |
You
and the teacher are not really poor and are quite well off, the
reason why don't don't keep up with fashion is because there are
more important things in life than fashion. |
Teacher |
You
believe that fashion is a waste of money and those who need fashion
to give themselves identity is an indication of a lack of intelligence.
An intelligent person does more with life than a person who worries
about fashion. |

Scenario |
The
teacher is a boss of a very large company and you are having a business
meeting. You are all of his/her employees but you are all "Yes
men," this means you agree with everything he/she says. For
example, when he/she makes a bad joke and it isn't really that funny,
you must laugh very hard. |
Student
1 |
You
are very eager to make the boss happy; you will always ask if she/he
wants tea or coffee, you always compliment on his/her clothes such
as "gee sir, that is a very nice tie". |
Student
2 |
Every
time the boss says something, you must say like "fantastic
idea, sir," despite whether you think it is a good idea. If
he/she makes a bad joke that is not that very funny at all, you
must laugh very hard and very long. |
Student
3 |
You
are the opposite, you don't find his/her jokes to be funny and you
don't laugh at all. If you think his/her ideas to be foolish and
will not be successful at all then you will tell the truth. |
Teacher |
You
are the boss of a telephone company and you are having a meeting
about making your phones to be a lot more expensive. You want your
employees to give some opinions if this is a good idea or not. Such
as if you make mobile phones to be more expensive then will this
increase your sales and profit? You must tell really bad jokes to
them as well. |

A
celebrity whose life is constantly in the news and magazine lacks
privacy having photographers following them around everywhere all
of the time. The teacher is a famous singer and is on a date so
this is very interesting for magazines to have on their front cover.
|
Student
1 |
You
and student 2 are paparazzi photographers which mean you take photos
of famous people in their daily life without that person's permission.
This makes you lots of money and you don't care about that person's
privacy. |
Student
2 |
You
are in a restaurant where the teacher is on his/her date with student
3; first you are hiding on another table secretly taking photos
but then you change your plan to get closer. You go to their table
and start taking photos very close to their faces because you want
them to get angry to make the photos more interesting. |
Student
3 |
You
are on a date with the teacher who is very famous yet you have been
his/her boy/girlfriend for almost a year. You love him/her very
much but you hate the lack of privacy there is in this relationship. |
Teacher |
You
are a famous singer and you are on a date with student 3 and you
want to propose marriage to him/her. This is a very special moment
for you and you want it to be a private moment until the paparazzi
comes along and ruins it. Thus making you become very angry with
them and say that you deserve the right to privacy. |

Scenario |
The
teacher was in a car accident a long time ago and she/he is in a
wheel chair. People treat those who have disability as if they are
stupid despite they could be very intelligent. Have you ever notice
when a person is blind, some people will speak to that as if he/she
is deaf by speaking loud and slowly. |
Student
1 |
You
will talk to the teacher as if he/she is really stupid; for an example
pretend the teacher is a baby and how you would speak to a baby.
|
Student
2 |
Some
people become very uncomfortable around a person who has a disability
and you are very nervous to speak to the teacher. |
Student
3 |
Then
there are those who try to be too helpful to those with disability;
you will try to offer your assistance by pushing the wheel chair.
People with disabilities like to be independent but you think he/she
needs your help all of the time. |
Teacher |
You
are a new employee in the office and you want to introduce yourself
to the other office workers who you will be working with from now
on. You are a very friendly person and at your last job everybody
likes you but you find this new job that the people here are different. |

Scenario |
Foreign
travelers usually have to pay more for certain things because people
believe that western people are richer. Why should bus fare be more
expensive for foreigners than for local people. Or buying a product
from the market cost so much more when you are a foreigner and it
is hard to try to keep to a budget when traveling. |
Student
1 |
You
are the foreign traveler but you are a student studying in this
country and you are not rich. You want to buy some souvenirs for
your family. You are at a market because you can buy things cheaply
so you want to buy some products from the teacher. |
Student
2 |
You
think you are good at haggling which means to bargain; you are determine
to buy the products as cheap as possible. When the teacher makes
the first price to be very high, you will make your price to be
really low. |
Student
3 |
You
get angry very easily when trying to buy something and the shop
owners are always trying to make you pay so much for them. You will
actually swipe the teacher's products right off the table when he/she
refuses to give you a good price. |
Teacher |
You
own a market stall and you sell all sorts of things from fake watches,
cigarette lighters, laser pointers and other stuff that everyone
is selling in that market. You see the students as a gold mine and
you don't know they are studying and you think they're filthy rich
business people. You want to bled them dry and refuse to sell anything
for what they're worth. |

Scenario |
In
many western countries, they have nursing homes; when an old person
becomes dependent upon the family to be taken care of, they are
sent to this place. Families often don't live with the grandparents
and when they need to be taken care of, they don't want to do this.
So they will put them into a place which is similar to a hospital
and they will seldom visit the grandparent. |
Student
1 |
Your
life is too busy to worry about your father/mother for you to take
of as he/she constantly needs help to go to the bathroom and other
things. You really don't want the burden of having to care of him/her
and just want someone else to take care of him/her. |
Student
2 |
You
are the wife/husband of the first student and you never liked living
with your mother/father in law because he/she is always complaining
about everything. You are really glad that your wife/husband is
making this decision. |
| Student
3 |
You
are the grandchild of the teacher and you really love him/her but
you don't understand what is happening. Why is he/she no longer
going to live with you anymore? Why is mother and father sending
him/her to this depressing place? |
Teacher |
You
are arriving with your family to the nursing home but you weren't
told that you will be staying here for the rest of your life. This
is shocking; all of those years that you have supported your family
and in return this is what they are going to repay you by - to live
out the rest of your days in this dreary gray world surrounded by
dying old people. |

Sometimes
companies give jobs to those who are very attractive but usually
jobs that are customer-service related such as receptionist. Though
in this situation, a company has given the teacher a job as a paramedic
because it deals with people. But the teacher maybe attractive but
not very smart to be in this position. |
Student
1 |
You
are a car accident victim and you are bleeding to death that if
you don't get medical attention right now, you will die. You must
be screaming in pain and crying that you don't want to die. |
Student
2 |
You
are also a victim of the car accident but you are not seriously
injured at all so you are comforting the first student. You notice
that the teacher is not very good at this job and you criticise
him/her for being so stupid. |
Student
3 |
You
are the second paramedic and also you are hired for being attractive
so you also don't know how to do this job correctly. You don't know
the names of the equipment and you get sick when you see all of
the blood. |
Teacher |
You
arrive on the scene but the first thing you do is make sure your
hair is right. If you are female than make sure your lipstick is
on and make sure that you look good in the ambulance's mirror. You
are also very worried that blood will get on your clothes so you
don't want to get too close to the first student. |

Scenario |
In
this scenario men are considered lower than women; it is the man's
job to clean the house and look after the children while the wife
goes out to make money. This is a home where the father spends his
day hand on foot while the wife comes home late from work and expects
her meal ready for her. |
Student
1 |
You
are the wife and you have just come home from the office and you
say to your husband "where is my dinner." If your dinner
isn't ready by the time you get home then you become very angry
and abuse him. You hit your husband and say that husbands should
show their respect to their wives. |
Student
2 |
You
are the eldest child and you don't like seeing your father being
treated so badly by your mother. You stand up to your mother and
tell her that she should leave. |
Student
3 |
You
are the youngest child and very close to your father who is very
nice to you but to your mother you are very afraid of. When your
mother gets angry, you hide behind your father. |
Teacher |
You
are the loving husband to an angry and abusive wife, you try so
hard to please her but she expects perfection from you. You then
tell her that a man wasn't created just to please his wife and is
just as smart as a woman. |

| Scenario |
Homeless
people are treated lesser than a poor person that in fact less than
an animal. This scenario is in a poor area in New York city where
there are a lot of homeless people. |
Student
1 |
You
own a shop and the teacher is an old man/woman who is about to die.
You don't care about this because you want him/her to just go away
from the footpath outside of your store. |
Student
2 |
You
are the partner of the store and you too are tired of so many homeless
people wandering around your area making the shops look bad. Instead
of helping the teacher or calling an ambulance, you kick him/her
away from your shop and say "go somewhere else and die." |
Student
3 |
You
are a homeless personl and you are trying to get help for the teacher
who is about to die but no one seems to care. You just want the
shop owners to call for an ambulance but they just want you to leave. |
Teacher |
You
have been living on the streets for almost ten years and you are
really old, you are also extremely sick that if you don't get to
a hospital, you will die. Though you won't get there and you will
die right on the footpath and no one but your friend cares that
you are dead. |
