Missionaries
in China. |
China's
policy on religion is that the government only recognizes the main
religions such as Catholicism, Taoism, Buddhism and even Islam. What
they don't recognize are those so many new made up American Christian
religions. So in other words Mormons are not allowed to come and knock
on everybody's door. You can't claim to be a stigmata and declare
healing powers or even sell miraculous bottled tap water. |
In
the past when missionaries came to convert the heathens into civilized
Christians they stayed and built towns. Today missionaries seem to
be like pyramid sales people, how many converts can they get and they
will rise up the ranks. They go and seek people, ask them to convert
and if they do then leave thinking there is a little throne besides
God's when they die. With so many different types of American Christians
it is hard to know which one is the true religion in God's eye. |
What
they are doing is using ESL as a means to stay in China and convert
students. They will offer to work for a really low salary that most
of us would never accept but they will have an income from their church.
They would even set up a training centre and offer a ridiculously
low fee. Pushing your beliefs onto students is not what we're here
to do. Getting students to think for themselves and choose their own
beliefs is more acceptable by the government. Most contracts usually
state you are not allowed to preach any sort of religion but it is
okay to discuss issues such as conflicts caused by religion. |
There
are lots of Christians who see a billion people living in a Godless
country as a juicy opportunity, just as a company sees China as a
billion untapped customers and they think that here is where they'll
can sky rocket their conversion numbers. I have met a lot of Chinese
Christians, I stumbled upon a bible study once who pray in English.
There are catholic churches with Chinese nuns, mosques and temples
everywhere. So it is not a Godless country unless if you believe that
your wacky new religion is true in the eyes of God. Many times in
Australia I have been propositioned by these people and even telling
them that my family are catholics they told me Jesus is not in my
heart and I need to be saved. So even belonging to one Christian religion
it is not good enough to be saved because it is not the exact religion.
It is a matter of opinion what God wants from you but to claim that
you know exactly what he wants is blind fanaticism. |
There
are two things that will destroy civilization which are politics and
religion. If people continue to think that there is only one true
religion and the rest are heathens then there will be more suicide
bombings and plane hijackings. Indifference is the key to peace, most
people believe there is something good out there but when you start
thinking that you know exactly what God wants or even hates then we've
got problems. |
