Discrimination
in China. |
There
is a demand for foreign teachers in China and so many positions go
unfilled. There is an abundance of non native teachers who would be
happy to take those offers but schools refuse them. If a small privately
owned English centre is looking to hire teachers then they will only
offer Caucasians. this is because the parents will pull out their
child if this school has a non Caucasian teacher. |
The
season of "The apprentice" that has an African American
hired is an example of the mentality difference between western and
Chinese views. Trump hires someone because they can do the job but
if it were a Chinese business man he would have rather chosen the
idiot white guy who couldn't string a coherent sentence together.
How that guy actually made any money is beyond me. Secretaries are
employed to be a flower not an essential tool, managers are hired
because of connections not experience. |
Because
white people are known to speak English therefore only they can teach
English. What doesn't help is Hollywood, the gangsta image of African
Americans gives ignorant parents the stigma. One parent said that
all black people in America are beggars which really shocked me because
the last time I went to America there were lots of white beggars asking
for $50. |
Places
like Japan and Korea won't hire any non natives and one teacher who
worked in Korea said that there are a lot of ex-cons who gained a
degree in prison working in Korea. They can't get a job in England
and Koreans only want white faces so that is what they get. |
If
planning to come to China to work and you're not a native speaker
or not Caucasian never apply to training centres. Any school that
is all about business than education won't care if you're the world's
greatest teacher. It's all about the face than the brain but if you
apply to colleges there is a better chance. Colleges don't have to
deal with parents, the students are miles away from home and there
is no threat of parents pulling out their kids. A lot of the young
teachers are lured by the higher salaries by the centres but many
other teachers won't deal with spoilt brats. Colleges are now popping
up in "educational zones" and not ideal for the newbie teacher
looking to go clubbing. |
Schools
have dealt with some undesirable teachers and someone who comes to
class keeps the students happy is what they really prefer. If you
go and read the school reviews most of them are the training centres
and less colleges. |
